PICK AN EXTERIOR STYLE THAT FITS YOUR BRAND AND GOALS , AND BUILD A WORLD THAT WOWS YOUR AUDIENCE!

# 1 - AMPHITHEATER
An amphitheater is an excellent choice if your world features entertainment or other large gatherings. Stadium and arena are synonymous with amphitheaters and are theaters in the round, with tiered seating arranged around a stage at the hub. Typically, this type of structure is open-air. However, in the metaverse, what’s overhead is only limited by your imagination—a map, galaxies, a light show, or a tremendous gilded and domed ceiling.

#2 - ART DECO
The art deco style was established in the 1920s and was popular until the mid-40s. The name deco comes from the name of the 1925 Paris exhibition where deco motifs were first shown—The Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. This style takes the earlier organic forms of Art Nouveau and reduces them to their most minimal and geometric expression. The feel of Deco is sleek and sophisticated. One of Horizon’s top worlds featuring this style is The Destiny Train. Here you can drink cocktails, smoke cigars, view the art, and relax in lounges. Let us build a world like this for you.

#3 - MODERN
Frank Lloyd Wright’s harmonious designs are the epitome of this 1950s and 1960s style. However, modern architecture is a broad movement that crosses over into many other types. However, modern buildings share various features, such as louvers, platforms, and elevations. Unlike classicized building ideas, modern structures refer to unity and nature. Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes take notes from nature for strength, economy, and sustainability. Mid-century may be a more accurate term now that seventy years have passed since the height of this modern aesthetic. However, modern design is having a revival, especially in the metaverse! You’ll spot it in the Horizon virtual environments Quest Dome, Studio, Winter Resort, and Mountain Home.

#4 - BRUTALISM
Brutalism is stark and monolithic, hence the name. This 1950s style of architecture is a direct product and continuation of the Bauhaus and modernist movements. Where Deco reduced the frivolity of Nouveau to its most basic forms, brutalism did away with decoration altogether. It is the more utilitarian of all exterior design forms. Most Brutalist structures were built in urban areas and display unadorned construction materials, particularly concrete. This style is excellent for dystopian game worlds. Horizon’s virtual environment Crystal Atrium features brutalism with a metaphysical flair. For a world with a unique sci-fi feel, choose brutalism.

# 5 - CLASSICAL OR NEO-CLASSICAL
Greek, Roman, and Byzantine are referenced in the revival of classic architecture. The White House is a quintessential example of this neoclassical style. While Roman and Greek designs incorporate domes, columns, and keystone arches, Byzantine architecture is more elaborate, utilizing decorative features like mosaics and heightened domes. Real-world implementations in the current era are typically for community-use buildings like churches and city halls. Residential use of this style has had periods of resurgence, although it’s too grandiose for today’s sensibilities. But in the metaverse, anything goes, and even time travel is possible. Want a world set in ancient Rome? We can build it for you!

# 6 - GOTHIC
Gothic architecture’s main characteristic is stone construction overlaid with tracery—bas-relief in a pattern of interlacing or interconnected lines. Spires and gargoyles are elements that you will find in gothic structures built from the 12th to the 16th century. Buttresses in gothic architecture strengthen large walls and support cavernous spaces. Flying buttresses are exterior beams carried on a half arch that projects from a structure’s walls. A period of gothic revival occurred in the Victorian era. Overall, in today’s view, gothic architecture is synonymous with spooky. If you want a Tim Burton-ish world, choose this style.

# 7 - JAPANESE
Japanese architecture. Sliding doors paneled with rice paper are used in place of interior walls to create modular rooms. Like American mid-century modern, Japanese designs harmonize with nature. In fact, Frank Lloyd Wright drew heavily from Japanese ideas. Japanese spas or inns, called onsen or ryokan, are an excellent expression of this style with tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and Zen gardens. The Horizon virtual environment Ryokan Retreat is an ideal world to visit for an example of this style.

# 8 - ZIGGURAT PYRAMID
Ziggurats or pyramids are ancient structures characterized by sloping sides narrowing at the top. These structures are mysterious and appear across the earth. Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Incan, and Aztec are some of the cultures that built ziggurats or pyramids as temples and tombs. Ziggurats always have a flat top and are often stepped, whereas pyramids always come to a point and usually have smooth-surfaced exterior walls. Either way, these structures will make a bold statement in the metaverse.
